Let's start with what is Dry Brushing? Simply, it is brushing your skin in a pattern with a body brush. Using a coarse, natural-fiber brush you or your massage therapist massages it over your body in upward, circular motions. These coarse fibers help remove dead skin. When the dead skin is removed, it helps eliminate toxins through the pore. It also helps your product absorb more of the products you want!
The friction created by the coarse bristles and the circular movements leads to the removal of dead skin cells. In addition to dead skin cells, any dirt and oil will be removed too. Once this flaky skin is gone, your radiant skin can start shining! Further, with the dead skin removed, your skin will increase its cell turnover and help reveal softer, smoother skin.
The lymphatic system helps your body fight off infections. Fluids flow through the lymphatic system to help your body fight off infections. When exfoliating by moving the brush's coarse bristles over your skin, you will also be unclogging pores. Once unclogged, it is easier for your skin to release toxins. One way to release toxins is through sweat. Releasing toxins helps you stay healthy.
Another benefit of Dry Brushing is that it can stimulate your nervous system. The pattern of dry brushing is recommended to be towards the heart, starting with the feet and hands. Methodically work your way toward the heart. Dry brushing speeds up the rate of blood pumping. The lymphatic system then moves more quickly, removing toxins and pathogens. Visually, after dry brushing, you'll notice your skin taking on a pink/red hue. Don't be alarmed, it usually is not a cause for concern. Instead, it's a sign of better blood flow. This stimulation leaves you feeling invigorated and ready to conquer your day!
Dry brushing shows immediate results. After massaging your skin with a dry brush, your skin will have a radiant glow. Many feel like their skin appears smoother too, even reducing the appearance of cellulite. You'll notice the skin has a temporary plumping effect.
First start with a clean dry brush and a space where you can brush with ease. The shower or tub makes for the easiest cleanup. However, you can also lay a towel down and pick the towel up at the end.
Step 1: Begin at your feet and brush your skin using wide circular, clockwise motions
Step 2: Manage the pressure based on you thin or thick your skin is. Thin skin like the abdomen, breasts, and neck should have a lighter touch. Thicker skin like feet, legs, and elbows can have a heavier touch.
Step 3: After your feet, legs, and stomach, continue to your arms.
Step 4: Rinse off in the shower to remove any flakes and dead skin.
Step 5: Finish your dry brushing ritual with a soothing body oil and moisturizing body cream.
Dry Brushing is most conveniently done at home in the shower, before you begin your day. Once you finish brushing your entire body, there will be dead skin flakes to be wiped away. In the shower, it will be easily rinsed away.
You can also add Dry Brushing as an enhancement to any of your Sanctuary Signature Massages. When added to your massage, your service will begin with your Dry Brush enhancement and then continue to your massage. All of our G-5 Cellulite Massages begin with Dry Brush service.
