The Incredible Benefits of Akasuri Scrub
Sabrina • Aug 11, 2017

Feeling a little “meh” lately? Nothing refreshes the body, mind and spirit like a nice scrub down. If you’re in need of new start, or even just a little pick-me-up, our invigorating Akasuri Scrub is your ticket.

Origin

Although the word “Akasuri” is Japanese in origin, this style of body scrub originated on the Korean peninsula. In Korean culture, bathing represents the purification of the soul, and Akasuri Scrub is the cornerstone of the Korean approach to holistic health and wellness.

Massage & Vichy Shower

Traditionally, the treatment begins with a visit to either a hot shower, bath, steam room or sauna. At Sanctuary Spa, we begin with a light massage, and move on to washing the body with an exfoliating glove. After this preparation, you will be given a relaxing, warm Vichy shower. The Vichy shower helps to increase circulation through the body, oxygenate the blood, decrease joint pain, relieve muscle pain, reduce muscle spasms and cramps, and reduce nervous stress and promotes relaxation, rest and recovery. It also helps soften the skin, preparing it for the scrub.

 Scrub & Moisturization

After the Vichy Shower, any remaining bacteria, dirt or dead skin cells are removed during a vigorous scrub down. We then thoroughly scrub, clean and massage your body, both front and back. This thorough scrub down sloughs off impurities to expose newer, more youthful-looking skin. We finish off by gently massaging a moisturizing lotion into the skin. Your skin will feel remarkably smooth, clean and refreshed.

Benefits

Aside from feeling relaxed, refreshed and smoothed, what are the benefits of receiving such a treatment? There are plenty! At its core, the Akasuri Scrub exfoliates the skin. Not only does this leave your skin soft to the touch, but it removes oils, opening clogged pores. Removing all the waste that can linger on it helps your skin repair itself, and in turn leaves you with an improved complexion and a healthy “glow.”

Another benefit of the Akasuri Scrub is improved circulation. By stimulating the skin through rigorous massage, the scrub helps  boost blood flow. Proper blood flow helps reduce the formation of cellulite and can improve the look of existing cellulite. This increased blood flow can also help skin to appear more toned and tightened.

Like all other types of massage, the Akasuri Scrub has excellent benefits for the lymphatic system. As a part of the circulatory system, the lymphatic system carries fluid toward the heart. This fluid consists of white blood cells, which fight bacteria, as well as proteins and fats from the intestines. By stimulating our lymphatic system, we bolster our immune system, lessening our risk of infection.

If you’re looking for something new and unique, give the Akasuri Scrub a try. Your body will thank you – both inside and out!
