These days it seems like everything has “toxins.” Non-organic produce, makeup, cleaning products, scented candles – the list goes on. While sometimes it may seem that dangerous chemicals are unavoidable, there are steps you can take to reduce their effects on your health and well-being. Here are a few easy ways to detox your in your everyday.
It seems like a no-brainer, but the first step to reducing the a
mount of toxins your body is taking in is to decrease your exposure. If you can, try switching to organic foods and drinks. Avoid using or purchasing products that are chemical laden, such as household cleaners and personal care items. Try DIYing your own cleaning solutions and begin phasing over to all-natural makeup, skincare and personal care products.
We know it can be difficult to find the motivation to squeeze in some exercise after you’ve had a long day, but it’s very important. Exercise helps keep your lymphatic system – which is responsible for your immune system – active. If your lymphatic system becomes stagnant, your body doesn’t expel waste as efficiently. Exercise also makes you sweat, which helps speed up the removal of toxins.
The more fiber you eat, the quicker your body can remove waste. Keeping your colon regular is necessary for your overall health, but it’s especially important when trying to detoxify your system. Eating 30 to 40 grams of fiber daily should keep things moving.
We can’t stress enough how beneficial proper hydration is to your health. On average, we should be drinking 64 ounces of water a day, or eight eight-ounce glasses. If you’re highly active, you should be drinking even more. An easy way to determine how much water you should be drinking is to divide your weight by 2. For example, a 180 pound man should drink approximately 90 ounces of water per day for optimum hydration.
In addition to lifestyle choices, massage is a great way to help coax toxins out of the body. As we’ve discussed in previous blogs, massage helps to stimulate the lymphatic system, which is key in removing toxins and waste. For an added boost, we advocate massage that incorporates essential oils, as their healing properties can further the detoxifying effects of the massage.
As with any health or wellness routine, be sure to discuss any concerns you may have with a licensed physician before making any radical changes. We hope you find these tips useful!
